Why a Christmas Cross and Not a Star for Knightstown Indiana?

With all the recent news surrounding Knightstown Indiana and the ACLU lawsuit that forced the removal of our Christmas Cross that sat atop our Christmas tree on the town square, many have questioned the cross and why the town chose a cross instead of the traditional star.

The Christmas Cross was handcrafted by a local man and gifted to the town several years ago. It was the acceptance and appreciation of that gift that became a key part of the Knightstown annual tree lighting ceremony.

You see, it's not just a cross in the traditional sense – most people who think of the cross equate it with Easter, but for Knightstown, that cross has deep sentimental value along with the precious symbolism that's rooted in the hearts of many Christians.

Many people from around the United States and across the globe have stepped up and voiced their support for Knightstown as this sleepy little town awoke from its slumber to respond to the attack of one local man who found the cross offensive. The people of Knightstown have responded in the most amazing and peaceful way by crafting and displaying their own Christmas Cross on their own property or business.

Yesterday, my mother and stepfather who live in Vancouver Canada shared this video in support of Knightstown. I have listened to it several times and realize the Knightstown Christmas Cross is so much more than a symbol or tradition…

Have a listen. The lyrics are provided below so that you can see and feel just how precious this cross is to me and every other person who has been impacted by the lawsuit that has targeted the cross.

It’s About the Cross Lyrics

It's not just about the manger
Where the baby lay
It's not all about the angels
Who sing for him at day
It's not all about the shepherds
Or the bright and shining star
It's not all about the wise men
Who travelled from afar

It's about the cross
It's about my sin
It's about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It's about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It's about the cross

It's not just about the good things
In this life I've done
Its not all about the treasures
Or the trophies that I've won
Its not about the righteousness
That I've find within

It's all about His precious blood
That save me from my sin

It's about the cross
It's about my sin
It's about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It's about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It's about the cross

The beginning of the story is wonderful and great
But it's the ending that can save you and that's why we celebrate
It's about the cross
It's about my sin
It's about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It's about God's love
Nailed to a tree
It's about every drop of blood that flowed from
Him when it should have been me
It's about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It's about the cross It's about the cross

Thanks for supporting our efforts. The movement I am witnessing, with a front row seat is nothing short of amazing. It’s like we are experiencing our own Christmas Miracle.

Please keep Joseph Tompkins in your thoughts and prayers. I’m not sure why his heart is so dark that he would want to attack such a precious tradition – I know from my childhood that he had some of the sweetest, most godly grandparents ever. His father, who is saddened by the actions of his son is battling terminal cancer and needs our thoughts and prayers too. I pray that before it’s his time to go that he will see his son saved by the evils that haunt him.
